Roberts Grocery Store

Folks around Peach Orchard Hill had chickens and other animals. They needed a few staples and that is where Celeste Roberts (my Grandmother) played a part. During those early years most of her sales were in bulk. Maybe a small bag of flour for five cents. Coffee, sugar, corn meal, and flour were her big sellers. Many would run a charge at the store. Celeste
just wrote it down as they put things on charge. Usually, most all paid their debt.

Chewing Gum

     Celeste Ely Roberts Diary...

I sent her (Shirley) another time to the store, she had some change left, so she put it in a chewing gum
